Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the leading four wheeler company in south Asia’s majority stoke is in the hands of the Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan.  1980s was the downfall of scooters and the other two car – ambassador and Premier Padmini – since Maruti Suzuki started to produce 40,000 volumes a year just in two models – Gipsy and 800. In 1981 Maruti Udyog Ltd was incorporated of the Indian companies act, 1956. It became a Joint Venture partner. In 1982 the joint venture was signed between the Government of India and the Suzuki Motor Corporation. Thus, the famous Maruti Udyog Limited came into being. The first car was sold to Mr. Harpal Singh in 1983 which was a 796cc hatch back named “800” which is still in good condition.

Later when business grew up in India, transportation of both people and goods increased. This compelled Maruti Suzuki to launch the new model “Omni” which was spacious and stylish. It became a major part of Indian movies later. This is also a 796cc vehicle.

1985 was the year of “Gipsy” the first off-road from Maruti Suzuki. It was a 970cc, 4WD off-road vehicle. It is still the best in hill stations of Himalayas.

1987 was the year for Maruti Suzuki to launch its international business by exporting cars to Hungary.

In 1986-87 Maruti Suzuki got its first award of All Indian Engineering Export Promotion Council for maintaining high manufacturing standards. The same award was repeated the very next year 1987-88. In 1988 Maruti Suzuki won the Indian National Suggestion Scheme Association Award and Engineering Export Promotion Council award again in 1989.

The 1990 was a special year for Maruti Suzuki as it launched its first sedan “Maruti Suzuki 1000”. It was the turning point Maruti Suzuki and the whole car industry of India. And in 1992 the sale of Maruti Suzuki cars went up so high and it started flourishing.

In 1993 Maruti Suzuki gave birth to the powerful and beautiful car “Zen” which is still in great demand. And in 1994 the Maruti Suzuki “Esteem” came into being with a 1298cc powerful engine. It was the aftermath of Maruti Suzuki “1000”.

In 1997 Maruti Service Master (MSM) was launched as a model workshop in India which gives highest customer satisfaction.

1990 and 1991 also Maruti Suzuki won the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) award and in  1991-92 it was awarded the same for the sixth year.

For the best public sector Maruti Suzuki was awarded the Performance Acknowledged by Economic Times and Howard Business School Association of India.

In 1993-94 Maruti Suzuki got the NPC Award, Runners Up in Best Production performance in Automobile Industry and the EEPC awards.

Two awards were given in 1994-95: the National Award for Energy Conservation and the EEPC award for the eighth year. And in 1995 Maruti Suzuki was awarded with Indian National Suggestion Scheme Association Award for the second time, ISO-9002 Certificate and the EXIM Star Trophy for outstanding Export Performance by JLN Port-Trust. In 1996 Maruti Suzuki achieved the Certificate of Significant Achievement under the CII Business excellence Award.

In 1996-97 Maruti Suzuki got the Hero Honda Rolling Trophy, 1st in CII (North) QC Circle Competition, MUL and National Export Award. And in 1998 Maruti Suzuki got the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Exim Award for business excellence too. And in 1999 Maruti Suzuki was first certified for establishing and maintaining EMS as per ISO 14001:1996 standards.

But in the year 2000 Maruti Suzuki reported a loss of Rs.269crores. Even then Maruti Suzuki continued its magic of winning awards of JD power customer satisfaction award, and IDTR (Institute of Driving Training and Research) was jointly launched with the government of Delhi to promote safe driving habits. And in the same year Maruti Suzuki launched it’s another popular model “Alto” and a Call Centre too. It was the first car call centre in India. In 2000 itself Maruti Suzuki won the first JD power Survey award.

In 2001 Maruti Suzuki claimed a profit of Rs.104.5crores. The same year launched the new model “Versa”, Maruti True Value. The JD power Survey award was repeated in 2001 for the second time.

In 2002 Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) acquires majority stake in MUL with the increase to 54.2% and launched Maruti Finance and Insurance. The JD Power Survey award was repeated for the third time in 2002 and EMS as per ISO 14001:1996 standards.

Another crown to Maruti Suzuki was given in 2003 by getting into BSE and NSE. IPO was also in 2003. And the New Zen launched first facelift by Maruti engineers. And JD Power Survey award the forth time in 2003.

In 2004 Esteem also got a new face and Maruti Suzuki continued taking the JD Power Survey award.

In 2005 Maruti Suzuki launched the world class model “Swift” and the JD Power Survey award for the sixth year. Maruti Suzuki was again certified in 2005 as per ISO 14001:2004 standards.

In 2006 Maruti Suzuki thought of the feelings of NRIs and launched the ‘Dil Se’ through which the NRIs could facilitate their family with their dream car online. A leading auto company from Japan named Bellsonica Corporation announced a joint venture with MUL. And Maruti Suzuki launched a new IDTR and New Zen Estilo took birth in November 2006. JD Power Survey award for the seventh year in 2006.

2007 saw the “Swift” diesel and “SX4”. SX4 was a luxury sedan and the tag line of it was ‘Men are Back’. It was more than a male. And launched “Grand Vitara”. And in 2007 the company changed its name Maruti Udyog Limited to Maruti Suzuki India Limited. And Maruti with Gujrat government set up Driving and Technical Training Institute for tribal youth. JD Power Survey award for the 8th 2007 and India Customer Satisfaction Index award. Maruti got the India Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study award, and India Initial Quality Study.

In 2008 Maruti Suzuki announced its world premiere concept car “A-Star” at the 9th Auto Expo, New Delhi. But it is a sad thing to say that it is still not done and another car in 2008 was launched with the same name. Maruti Suzuki also got the Car Manufacturer of the Year award in 2008 and the ICICI-NDTV Profit Viewers Choice Awards by Maruti Suzuki SX4. The ET Avaya Global Connect award was also in 2008. The other awards won by Maruti Suzuki SX4 in 2008 are TV-18 Autocar Mid Size Car Award, CNBC TV-18 Autocar Value for Money and CNBC TV-18 Autocar Award for Viewers Choice. CNBC TV-18 Autocar Manufacturer Award was given to Maruti Suzuki in 2008. Alto reaches One Million Mark in 2008 and Swift completed the sale of 250,000 units and “Swift DZire” was launched. 2008 was the year for the launch of M800 LPG and Maruti Suzuki became the world’s 200 most reputed companies. It was in 2008 Maruti Suzuki launched the all new engine of KB Series. In 2008 Maruti Suzuki wins the JD Power Customer Satisfaction Index award. Maruti Suzuki launches the A-Star in 2008 with KB Series engine. Maruti Suzuki also won the Auto Monitor Awards for 2007, and the Manufacturer of the Year Award for the passenger car category.

In 2009 MSIL adopts voluntary Fuel Disclosre, First Shipment of A-Star leaves Mundra Port- Jan 10, A-Star bags Zigwheels “car of the year award” and Autocar-UTVi for the best small car of the year. In 2009 Swift the most desired car of India sold the 300,000th unit. The online club ‘Swift Life’ started for the owners of it in 2009 and 50th Maruti Driving School was begun. After A-Star Maruti Suzuki launched “Ritz” – another KB Series engine car. The annual sales of Maruti Suzuki reaches its highest in 2009. A-Star was launched in Europe too. Now the latest renewed Maruti Suzuki Zen Estilo is also having the KB Series engine.

With all these achievements Maruti Suzuki is happy and proud to celebrate its 25th year in India.

The 50 percent of the car market of India runs with Maruti Suzuki. Maruti Suzuki India Limited too birth in India 25 years back. Maruti Suzuki is India’s biggest passenger car provider. India comes home in a Maruti Suzuki.

Maruti Suzuki 800 was the first and base model Maruti Suzuki gifted to India. It put down the other car companies. It marked a large change in the automotive field in India. Maruti Suzuki today has 13 models and more than 150 variants of cars. The arrival of Maruti Suzuki 800 later meant “Maruti means 800 and car means Maruti”. It was only at the first stage and now it has changed into “Car means Maruti Suzuki”.

The objectives of the Maruti Suzuki company are customer obsession, innovation, creativity, networking and partnership, fast, flexible and first mover, openness and learning.

The different models of Maruti Suzuki are Maruti 800, Omni, Gipsy, Alto, Wagon R,  ZenEstilo, Versa, A-Star, Ritz, Swift, SX4, DZire and Grant Vitara.

The sale of Maruti Suzuki cars increase day by day. The total sale of Maruti Suzuki cars was 17.3% more in September 2009 than that of September 2008. This kind of variation is a repeated history for Maruti Suzuki. The total sale of the year 2009-10 was 23.8% more than the year 2008-09. All these are because of the trust that the customers have on Maruti Suzuki. Maruti Suzuki makes us drive with confidence. The service Maruti Suzuki offers is the best of all the automotive companies in India today. Since it has a long time’s experience no one can even beat Maruti in this case. It has authorized service stations every 50 kilometers.

Maruti Suzuki has cars in different models ranging from a standard level to a high position. It is because it has customers from all the classes of people of India. Maruti Suzuki is not just for rich alone. It takes car of the poor too. Thus, the 25 years of success is really a wonder. It has been made possible with pure perfectionism.
